Windsor Res were knocked out of the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup in round 2 as they went down 4-1 to Combined counties division 1 outfit Sandhurst Town.
Windsor Res traveled to the west Berkshire side with a depleted side but despite putting in a solid display for 70 mins the quality of Sandhurst came through.
Sandhurst started on the front foot and took the early lead as their right winger cut in to fire them in front. Windsor responded as Jermaine Payne headed in a Owen Richardson corner, Windsor were now in control of the game and went close to taking the lead as a effort from Jay Thompson was well saved by the Sandhurst keeper, Windsor had a glorious chance to take the lead as Mustapha Mohammed put Stone Muzingha through who with the goal gaping and only the keeper to beat shot wide. Sandhurst however recovered from the Windsor pressure and showed their higher league status and retook the lead just before half time as a mix up in the Windsor defense allowed the Sandhurst striker to sneak in and finish smartly into the bottom corner leaving Windsor keeper Hassan Hussain no chance. Sandhurst went into the break 2-1 up.
2nd half Windsor came out of the blocks the quickest and went close through Jay Thompson who saw his effort go just past the post and then Owen Richardson saw his free-kick go just wide. As Windsor were settling into their rhythm they switched off defensively as the Sandhurst substitute fired home from 20 yards as Windsor allowed him time and space to pick his spot. Windsor kept pushing forward to salvage something from the game but Sandhurst sealed the game late on as their striker got on the of a free-kick which was floated into the box despite the offside flag going up referee allowed the goal to stand which made the score very flattering for Sandhurst as they ran out 4-1 winners and through to the next round. Windsor will have to bounce back as they are back in league action this Saturday home to Slough Heating Laurencians.
